Since 2016, the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) container weighing amendment has required every packed container to have Verified Gross Mass (VGM) before it can be loaded onto a vessel. The regulation, adopted by the International Maritime Organization, is designed to increase maritime safety and reduce risk to cargo, containers, and everyone involved in container transport across the supply chain.

Shippers are legally responsible for providing the VGM to ocean carriers and/or port terminal representatives ahead of the load list cut-off date – and Maersk is here to make that process as accurate and painless as possible, from calculation guidance through to end-to-end weighing and transmission on your behalf.
