Topic of the Month: E2E Logistics

On this topic of the month, we will start the year by explaining what End Logistics (E2E) truly means; we will uncover the benefits it brings, including the vital role it plays in unlocking new markets. Discover how E2E logistics has the potential to revolutionize your business by seamlessly connecting every link in the supply chain and enhancing efficiency. As logistics continues to evolve into an integral part of effective supply chain management, it becomes an important key player when we talk about operational efficiency. Offering businesses new avenues and possibilities in the ever-changing global market landscape.

What does end-to-end logistics mean?

End-to-end logistics refers to the management and coordination of more than one process involved in the supply chain, from the initial point of origin to the final point of delivery or even to its consumer. It encompasses the entire cargo journey through the supply chain, including production, transportation, warehousing, distribution, and delivery to the end customer.

This approach seeks to streamline and optimize the entire logistical process, ensuring efficiency, visibility, ease, and visibility at every stage. Nowadays, companies seek to integrate and synchronize the various supply chain activities to enhance overall performance, but a study made by Deloitte explained that only 13% of businesses currently have visibility of the supply chain and their logistics. This means involving technology, data analytics, and strategic partnerships to create a seamless and interconnected flow of goods or services. E2E logistics considers the entire supply chain ecosystem for maximum effectiveness and competitiveness.

Before E2E, the supply chain focuses separately on each function and step of the process by silos. This results in an inefficient and limited overall performance. The end-to-end supply chain integrates all tasks and provides a more remarkable customer experience and process efficiency by having visibility across the supply chain.

Main port status

Most terminals are currently experiencing positive trends in terms of waiting times. However, there are specific challenges observed in different regions:

In the United States, due to New Year's stoppages, we anticipate an increase in waiting times of around 2 days at the mentioned port, primarily due to port congestion.

In Latin America (LAM) terminals:

  • Paranagua: Vessels outside the berthing window are facing increased waiting times.
  • Navegantes: The terminal is significantly impacted by ongoing civil works, leading to extended waiting times.
  • Veracruz and San Antonio: These terminals are currently facing delays due to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ushuaia is experiencing port congestion as a result of the ongoing cruise season.

Costa Rica: The caldera situation continues to be closely monitored, with significant improvements and stabilization achieved in operations. Nevertheless, proactive attention is imperative to anticipate and address any potential challenges.
Nicaragua: The situation is gradually stabilizing after the year-end festivities, during which there was a decrease in driver capacity due to the holiday.
Panama: The strike has concluded, and the situation is currently stable. However, we remain vigilant and responsive to any unforeseen developments.

Colombia: The situation at Cartagena remains critical, resulting in limited availability of truckers in the market. We are actively reinforcing our capacity to ensure the fulfillment of all deliveries. Your continued trust is essential as we navigate these dynamics and strive for optimal service.

Central America, Andina and the Caribbean Sea Area

Colombia Valentine's season will start since January 15th, extended until February the 12th, meaning tigh capacity for the export and additional surcharges for cargo going to the US; priority will be flowers. The rest of The Caribbean and Central America capacity is stable. For Imports, the market is back to pre-peak rates and capacity with close monitoring for Asia lanes and possible impacts for the Red Sea Gulf situation. Finally, the Chinese New Year is approaching, so an increase in the demand is expected.

West Coast South America

Capacity on exports is normalized after the cherry season that ended in the first week of January in Chile. We have a plum season coming in mid-January, so capacity may be constrained from week 4 until week 6 in Chile. In Peru, we also expect some high demand because of the fruit season. Imports to WSA may face stress due to the Chinese new year.
