The Customer
A leading global hygiene and health company, the customer offers a variety of products and services. The company operates in 3 key business areas – health and medical, consumer goods and professional hygiene – all frontrunners in their respective markets. With a greater presence in the fastest-growing sales channels, the company is able to offer world-class services, quality and efficiency along with cutting-edge innovation and digitisation.
The Challenge
A combination of supply chain disruptions and production delays caused low stock of the manufacturer’s incontinence pads for aged care facilities in Australia. They needed a cost-effective solution to move 88 pallets from Canada to their distribution centre in Australia. It was necessary to balance contractual fulfilment obligations to customers with the cost of transporting the shipment. Adding to this, transit times between Canada and Australia were too long, with the risk of stock-out very high.
The Solution
Maersk put forward an integrated solutions offering that fit the customer’s exact requirements. We were able to transport the first 20 pallets via air freight directly to Australia, with a timeline of 3- 4 days to ensure that disruptions did not take place. The remaining 68 pallets were transported using our Air-Sea service via Hong Kong in around 21-23 days.
This unique offering that integrates Maersk’s ocean expertise with its air freight services enabled the customer to receive the goods on time without any disruptions. This perfect balance between financial savings and transit time also resulted in about 30%- 45% lower carbon emissions.
The Result
We were able to meet every service requirement requested by the customer and successfully moved their product to the final destination. Combining multiple services of Maersk helped the customer’s distribution centres have appropriate stock levels to continue fulfilment. Our unique Air-Sea service saved the customer over USD 90,000 compared to a direct Air solution.
