For transports arranged in Merchant Haulage, empty containers must be returned to the Place of Delivery location as stated on the Bill of Lading.
* Drop off charges in deep sea ports (Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Wilhelmshaven) only apply if the Port of discharge varies from the port of empty drop off.
In exceptional cases and after confirmation by the carrier, empty containers may be returned at an alternate location against payment of a drop-off fee as per tariff below.
The trigger for the validity period is the first load date at origin (Price Calculation Date).

Tariffs:
- Reefer demurrage includes plug-in/electricity charges.
- Reefer container with IMO follows Reefer.
- Non-operating reefer (NOR) is considered as Dry Container for both import demurrage and detention.
- Non-operating reefer (NOR) with IMO follows Reefer for import demurrage.
- 40´ High and 45´ High containers are considered equal to 40´.
- Shipper's own containers (SOC) are not subject to detention and are subject to demurrage.
- Shipper’s Own Container is considered as equivalent to corresponding container type and cargo type. Examples: A Tank with Dry cargo follows terms of Dry equipment, while a Tank with IMO cargo follows terms of IMO.

- Shipper's own containers (SOC) are not subject to detention and are subject to demurrage.
- Shipper’s Own Container is considered as equivalent to corresponding container type and cargo type. Examples: A Tank with Dry cargo follows terms of Dry equipment, while a Tank with IMO cargo follows terms of IMO.

B/l clausing, documentation
Private Individuals in Bill of Lading - All Bill of Lading parties in Germany must have a valid tax ID (VAT number). Private individuals alone are not allowed. We recommend getting in contact with Maersk LNS if there is no other registered company involved in a shipment.
Special Customs Requirements
The German customs system can only handle 140 characters in the cargo description of each cargo line. To avoid unnecessary customs inspections and costs for the final receiver, we urge shippers to make sure that proper and complete description of goods is mentioned in the first 140 characters. If not feasible within this limit, please split cargo description by commodities and use more than one cargo line.
Empty Return of Containers
Redelivery must be arranged to the depot/terminal which is mentioned on our release-notification.
Any deviation needs to be requested in writing 48 hours prior to redelivery and may only be executed after receipt of written confirmation through us.
Unauthorized return of equipment to any depot/terminal not confirmed through us will result in additional costs that will be charged to the responsible party.
Others
For shipments to Germany it is mandatory cargo description with 125 characters due to local customs limitation. If the cargo description has more than 125 characters it is necessary to submit the missing information to German customs authorities. This results into extra effort within destination & customs which will be charged per container level accordingly.
