The U.S. Government has announced several new trade measures, including country-specific tariffs and additional Section 301 duties on certain imports. Applicability varies by country of origin, tariff classification, and available exclusions; therefore, not all imported goods are affected.
Canada – Section 338 Tariffs
The U.S. Government has announced an additional 50% tariff on certain Canada-origin goods, scheduled to take effect on August 19, 2026. This action is targeted and does not apply to all Canadian-origin imports. The White House has stated that covered products may be subject to the additional duty regardless of whether they otherwise qualify under USMCA. Certain exclusions apply, including energy products, potash, products subject to Section 232 measures, fish, critical minerals, and certain other goods.
Brazil – Section 301 Tariffs
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has implemented an additional 25% tariff on certain Brazil-origin goods, effective July 22, 2026. The measure applies only to products within the scope of the USTR action. Certain exemptions may apply based on product classification and official guidance.
Additional Section 301 Tariffs
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has announced additional Section 301 tariffs on certain imports from 60 countries, effective July 24, 2026, with additional duties ranging from 10% to 12.5%, depending on the country of origin. Certain exclusions and special tariff treatment may apply. A limited 4-day grace period is available for qualifying cargo already in transit. Goods loaded onto a vessel before 12:01 a.m. ET on July 24, 2026, and entered before 12:01 a.m. ET on July 28, 2026, may qualify for an exemption from the additional duties.
